If this has been asked before, please point me in the right direction.

My HOA just installed a new gate system and it got me thinking, has Aptera given any thought of having remotes built into the car that can work on gates and garage doors?

You will need to keep a key fob in the center console to activate the gate.

Not a deal breaker but was hoping that Aptera had at least considered it.

I have 2 FOBs (gate & garage door) in my Volt since it has no builtin electronics either.

It is fairly clear Aptera is trying to be simple and minimal so I would be amazed if they built in a garage door opener. The standalone fobs are not expensive but implementing it into a vehicle adds complexity and testing.

Curtis, you can do this by going to your local wrecking yard and finding a vehicle that has a HomeLink module installed in the visor. Buy the visor and any attached wiring. Carefully remove the module from the visor along with its power connector and wires. You’ll have to figure out a 12vdc power source and a place to mount the module (the one I have is about 3″ x 3″ x 0.5″). Be aware that there are some cars that have a small switch unit with the 3 buttons and another unit that has the transmitter circuitry. You can also sometimes find HomeLink modules on eBay.

I wouldn’t think that gate access would be a frequent enough concern to add it. I doubt that garage access was ever considered.

Ah, there are a LOT of gated communities nowadays as that is how HOAs try to keep out the riff-raff. So something like the three button HomeLink is handy to have.

I have one I installed for less than $40 that’s call a Genie Universal Remote. I can clip it anywhere I like or move it to another vehicle.

I bet that someone could design a slick snap-on adapter that fits to the top or left side of the main screen and 3D print them in a range of available colors for a reasonable price.

        What say you Oops1e?

My point exactly. Devices are cheap and no need for Aptera to add cost/complexity by including it in the vehicle. Personally I use one on my key chain but a 3d printed holder or double sided tape problem solved

My Aptera will be spending most nights in my garage & most days outside in the Sun.
My goal is for 365+ days of continuous use WITHOUT ever having to plug into my EVSE.

@john-diebold Does the community gate work by remote only or does it also have a barcode scanner?

For garage doors only, I added one of these and it works like a charm! https://gotailwind.com/
