Maryland Changes Autocycle Law – Don't Panic!
-
According to a 5/5/2022 CleanTechnica article “Maryland Stops Treating 3-Wheeled Cars Like Motorcycles”. Maryland’s autocycle law (applicable to the Aptera, Polaris Slingshot, Archimoto FUV, and ElectraMeccanica among others, presumably) required that the vehicle have a steering wheel. The Archimoto FUV has a handlebar. Maryland changed the law to replace “wheel” with “mechanism.” This would have affected the Aptera only if a “yoke” is not considered a “steering wheel” (probably not the case). But now that ambiguity has been eliminated.
Anyway, Aptera is mentioned in the article a few times, which is a good thing.

Did you attach the link? Since I an not sure of topic(s)
Is different than this article for “autocycles”?

Sorry, posted the item inadvertently before finishing it. Fixed now. Yes, both articles refer to the same change to Maryland’s law.

One wonders if they’ll distinguish between the standard “roll cage”-bodied Arcimoto and the more motorcycle-esque “unbodied” Roadster version…
I wish the distinction between motorcycle and autocycle included “fully enclosed cabin” but, then, a fully-open 4-wheeled “sit-inside” vehicle is still an automobile…
