How about a option adding two rear facing seats? They will be uncomfortable similar to Telsa S’ 6th and 7th seats, but that makes Aptera a four-passenger vehicle. Some creative interior arrangement will be needed. Front seats may have to be more upright and forward when the backseats are deployed, the backseats will be very close to the floor if not sitting on the floor, and cargo will need to be secured from flying into the 3rd and 4th passengers, etc.

It will require ~500lb additional load capacity but should be doable since 100kwh version will add more than ~500lb battery to a 40kwh version anyway.

Not in the cards for the first production Aptera. Aptera will engineer and produce a 4/5 seat, four wheel vehicle next that should satisfy your suggestion. There will be no massive reengineering of the current version of the Aptera. Some changes may be made to meet off shore requirements. But nothing as major as you suggest.

Given the width I really hope they include a 360 parking camera view. These systems are very useful and give the width I think it would be more important in an Aptera than other vehicles. 3rd party ones are available but as this feature is fairly standard these days and Aptera will need the cameras for safepilot hopefully they can do double duty.

Not sure what features will be built into the software but it would be nice to be able to see a graph showing how much it costs to charge at home. Similar to what my model 3 offers but with solar built into the calculations showing how much saved with solar.

Electricity cost .39 peak .37 off peak.

How about an ejection seat for when the passenger gets too chatty. Also, seeing as the car slips through the air so easily, how about adding spoilers or a drag chute?

Run flat tires would be great! I don’t want to worry about how to get this thing off a dangerous highway while trying to get special towing. I also don’t want to a can of “fix a flat” as a temporary solution.

If we’re just spitballing here, an integrated dashcam would be great, especially if it recorded front, side, and back perspectives.

Since the Aptera will get lots of attention, a sentry mode is absolutely mandatory.

Would love to see the new CarPlay features that Apple showed off today implemented in the production version of the car! Not sure if there’s time to make any adjustments that may be needed to do it though.

Currently, I have a Hyundai Ioniq 2017 and an MG ZS 2022 long range and I can compare 2 vehicles with different sets of options, qualities and drawbacks.

    Hyundai Ioniq :

    – 28kWh battery

    – hatchback

    – uses twice as much electricity as the Aptera, but still one of the best in class with the Model 3

    – Average quality backup camera but good enough. No 360 degrees cameras but front and back ultra sound sensors

    – Basic LKS (but works well within its limitations, it is smooth)

    – Well done (smooth) adaptative cruise control

    – Not possible to tow and no roof rack possible

    – Not very quite inside at high speed, a lot of wind noise

    – Suspension are fine and tuned for comfort, not performance

    – Buttons and touch screen, use whatever you like. Most of the buttons and GUI are well engineered and easy to use and understand, even without reading the user manual Very user friendly for the most part. The old GUI for the GPS was better compared to the new one IMO (latest update)

    – System works well and the bugs are rare, very mature system but still lack the possibility to stop the charge at 80% or other charge level

    – No V2L possible

    – Charge fast (70kW in a 28kWh battery with a car using little energy, in peak and the charge rate remains good until 80%)

    – The car is now 5 years old and more than 140000km (87000 miles) and I didn’t notice a range drop. I don’t see any problem with the battery using the OBD2

    – OK to use either the buttons or the touchscreen while driving but still easier to use the buttons, especially those on the steering wheel

    – No seat heater

    – Heat pump and possible to heat/cool the driver only to reduce power when you are alone

    – Easy to change the regen power on the fly. Very nice to cruise at 0 regen when you anticipate a lot, but nice to set a strong regen when you lift your foot of the accelerator in mountain roads.

    MG ZS :

    – The car is only 3 months old and I drove 6000km (3700 miles) and I can tell now what is good and what is not good in this car

    – The car is not that expensive compared to other EV and for what it provide

    – LKA is not nice to use, too aggressive

    – Adaptative cruise control is not nice to use, it is not smooth at all. No regen when using the ACC (regen available when not using ACC), the car break and accelerate (in a stop and go traffic jam) too aggressively, the car slow down too much in the corner when using ACC.

    – Too high, I have to jump out of the seat to leave the car

    – False leather seats, it is not nice. Fabric seats are much better. Also, it has heated seats but we can not adjust it. It is either ON or OFF. So we don’t use it.

    – 70kWh battery but the car uses 25% more energy than the Ioniq

    – It charges at 90kW peak and progressively go down to 70kW then 50kW.

    – V2L. The adapter is expensive but it is easy and cheap to make one yourself. It has been tested at 3kW

    – Big panoramic sunroof. It is nice but I don’t care

    – Big empty space under the hood. Easy to add aftermarket frunk

    – Possible to tow (500kg/1100lb) and add roof rack

    – A lot of wind noise, much more than the Ioniq at high speed

    – Better road filtration than the Ioniq

    – A lot of space in the back seats

    – Has buttons but they are not very useful because they are not very user friendly. The GUI is not that nice to use and worst of all, the screen is not very sensitive and you have to try many time to select what you want. Fortunately, there are buttons on the steering wheel, but again, it is not as user friendly as in the Ioniq

    – It has 360 degrees camera, but the cameras have horrible pictures, and mostly useless. It does have ultra sound in the back but not in the front. I like much more the system in the Ioniq even if doesn’t have 360 degrees camera.

    – The center console does not have space for a small handbag. Not very nice for women, especially when you travel with her as you either have the bag with your legs (if she drives) or you have to put it in the back. The Ioniq have some space where you can drop whatever you want without thinking.

    – I tried to drive them as if they had a yoke, and it is horrible, especially in some mountain roads.

    – A lot of bugs (crash of the DAB radio for example where we have to disconnect the 12V battery) but not as bad as what it was in the WV ID3 and ID4.

    – It is like if the have added features without thinking how to integrate everything in a nice way

So for the Aptera, it would be nice if :

    – Has very good and easy to use GUI. It is even more important as it does not have buttons. Please put real buttons (even if we can remap them) on the steering wheel. And please have a real steering wheel and not a yoke

    – Front and back ultrasound radar

    – Some well though center console, not only for the design but nice to use everyday.

    – Good enough hifi, but I have no doubt that it will be fine

    – As it will probably be difficult to see in the dead spot because of the design of the side door, please add a dead spot warning system when a car is about to overpass you

    – Very good quality camera with fast and progressive white balance

    – No bug in the software

    – Planning for charge stop in the GPS software

    – Display the map of the GPS when no trip is planned in the GPS (the Ioniq is displaying the map at all time, unlike the ZS)

    – Nice and smooth LKA and ACC

    – It would be nice if the charge rate on CCS stay as high as possible for as long as possible and decrease the charge rate only if it is really needed, as in the Ioniq

    – V2L inside and outside the car, from the high voltage battery (and not from the 12V battery).

    – A lithium 12V battery to reduce the weight (could be part of the main battery pack to reduce wiring ?)

    – No wind noise or road noise if possible

    – Suspensions tuned for comfort and road filtration (an option that people could choose would be nice, this way people who want sporty suspensions will be happy).

    – I prefer to not have a feature than having a half baked, buggy, not well thought feature. It would be nice if it is easy to add features in the future so that Aptera customers can upgrade their cars later with official kits at an affordable price

    – Long lasting car and long lasting paint/covering/… I want a car that will last for a very long time and that I will be able to upgrade with official hardware/software in the future

As you can guess, I will sell the MG ZS after buying the Aptera. I will keep it for 2 or 3 years as Aptera won’t be in France before 2023-2024 anyway.

    – Android Auto

    – Multi-camera view so you can see the wheel positions while parking and driving

    – An anchor point to pull the car out if it is stuck (an off road package is offered. Not having an anchor point while having an off road package would be an oversight IMO)

    – A 3rd seat.

    – A way to retract the wheels when at slow speeds (e.g. parking). I own a mid-sized truck, and the Aptera is wider than it including its mirrors.

      Don,

      You may already know this.

There will be no Android Auto, (Or Apple Car Play) a third seat, or a way to retract wheels in the production Aptera. I believe they will have a way (Probably camera) for you to see the right wheel to aid in object avoidance. Probably not a towing anchor point as you find in many cars as the vehicle is not to be towed. There was some talk about a minimal third seat being considered but no follow up in subsequent presentations.

I think the focus is now on getting a vehicle to production on schedule with minimal features, those originally published (No adds from the long list of suggestions) and perhaps selected planned features added post delivery, in particular the SaftetyPilot feature.

Even without the above, a remarkably efficient vehicle with no comparison in the EV market place, at lease in the minds of the 25,000+ reservation holders.

A smooth flat place on the passenger side to allow a suction cup to mount a phone holder would be nice. Somewhere outside of the airbag zone but usable by the passenger. Handy for those longer trips.

I’d like to be able to leave my doors open after parking and continue to listen to music without a continuous door open buzzer.

Also let all USB or 12 volt accessory sockets be made so they are not keyed but perhaps switched.

    – Delivery reliable safe quality vehicle.

    – Android Auto, BLE or direct connect. Ok if this comes as an OTA to the Aptera within a year of delivery. Open source hardware and software access to entertainment console, let us (community) write it if you do not have the bandwidth.

    – 240VAC single phase split (or two 120VAC out-of-phase plugs) 15A true sine-wave converter from 350VDC battery to use for moderate demanding camping appliances. If not, I am sure we may add our own third party converter under some panel as long as there is access to 0VDC, mid-point and 350VDC to the battery without cutting/drilling.

    – perfect fit durable (so I can throw stuff on it) rear low-profile ultra-light comfortable (airweave?) mattress comfortable for camping option

    – Cooled seats (crude controllable vent to seat pan ok). Not a make-or-break problem.

    – AC and Heat should be powerful enough to work overnight when camping option tent is being used.

    – Make up mirror for passenger/wife.

    – Spare tire + rim (for long trips). Can be limited-use type for 50 miles to closest tire shop.

    – A (paint or wrap, whatevz) finish that can last without getting too ratty 20 years in the Sun to make the solar cells worth while. My last cars were original paint 20 to 36 years in my service.

    Hi Riley!
So, I like all of the options you mentioned, and the option to expand battery capacity in the future but, you just gave me an idea 💡, hear me out:

This would not be an option for me, because I do intend to buy as soon as Aptera is available for me to make my purchase. But one of the barriers to ownership may be linked to the state of our horrible economy (which is widening the gap between haves and have-notgs) and one way to bridge that gap may be to rent Apterae, with an option to own. Waddayathink??

Thank you for all your work creating the first highly efficient automobile. The difficult work is done. My personal preferences for finishing touches (some of which I would pay for) would be

    1. An all black or grey interior for my sol

    2. Round steering wheel

    3. Plenty of electric outlets: USB A/C, 12 V DC, 120 VAC

    4. Car play

    5. Run Flat tires option

    6. Heads up display/Night vision

    7. EV to house power

    8. Upgraded power seats

    9. Cargo tie downs

    10. Backup Mechanical controls for lights, wipers, door/hatch locks, heat/cool, regenerative braking. (When the primary screen dies I want to continue to safely drive vehicle), Speedometer etc. I don’t care for the minimalist look I prefer function over form.

    Thank you

The ability to expand the solar input would my number one option I would love, it would make charging while camping nice or if I just don’t want to plug the vehicle into grid power. Next thing would be Android Auto, in fact it makes me a little nervous that vehicle isn’t coming with AA. Assuming there is onboard navigation is it going to be free of is it going to be an extra cost?

Cody, Chris A. has stated in one of Aptera’s videos (not sure which one) that a connector for additional solar input (e.g. lightweight folding solar panels) will be included in final production vehicle. The old FAQ spreadsheet (no longer available) listed that as a feature as well.

I literally don’t go anywhere without my German Shepherd (she’s the “office dog”, goes to work with me every day :), and she spends a lot of time in the car (in Texas…) when I can’t take her inside (grocery stores, restaurants, etc.) – I need the dog mode feature.

I would like to see aptera remove all options and have a single purchasable vehicle. This single variation will be the most profitable they could sell and easiest to build in large quantities. Once they have successfully ramped production and have the financial security they can start to introduce additional complexity to the production line.

Agree that no wish list should stop them from getting the vehicle out the door ASAP, but I’d love it if they took a cue from accessible websites and added an optional UI for the blind. I realize blind people are not the usual customers for automotive engineers, but it would enable the scroll wheels on the yoke to run the UI without ever looking at or touching the touchscreen. Start scrolling one way and the car would read out “Temperature. Music. Map.” Click it and continue scrolling and it would read out options “AC. Heater. Defrost on. Fan”. Click it and scroll to set numbers. As you learn the options, you can dial in option “2,2,3” just from the clicks in the scroll wheel without waiting for any audio feedback.

With the recent research on touch screens showing it is harder to use than touchable buttons (Buttons beat touchscreens in cars, and now there’s data to prove it), as the autocycle that thinks outside the car box, Aptera might make a UI that doesn’t require you to take your eyes off the road or hands off the yoke at all, like voice control was supposed to.

(Related free idea anyone can do: stick various textures or shapes to the back of the monitor, so if you want to change something, first run your finger along the back to get to the right place, so when you take your eyes off the road, your hand is already in exactly the right place. I think it is easier to adjust temp or volume without looking on a Tesla than a VW’s capacitive controls, because the bottom of the display is such an easy target, and once you are in the right place, it’s just up and right or left.)
