Will Aptera name be on vehicle ?
Posted by Pistonboy on August 24, 2022 at 8:55 amWill the “Aptera” name be on the vehicle? I have not noticed it on the models I have seen thus far. The green symbol is present, but not the name. Is it still to come?
I believe there are fewer words on the outside of vehicles today. My RAV4 has the word RAV4 on the outside in one place and the Toyota symbol in two places. Inside the Toyota symbol is in one place. Nowhere is there the name “Toyota”, inside nor outside. Perhaps they believe symbols are less ugly than words. Formerly, vehicles had may words on them: the make, the model, “Limited”, numbers, etc. I always thought words were ugly. Many car enthusiasts who redo their vehicle will leave the words off completely.
Could Aptera be planning to leave it off? It would look more attractive. It would also add to the mystery of the vehicle. (shrewd marketing tactic) People would be even more interested in it.
What do you think?
What would you like?

Have they even named the vehicle? APTERA is the companies name, they need to give it a proper designation. Most vehicles have their nomenclature on the rear of their vehicle…not sure there is any space for that?
-
The company is Aptera Motors Corporation (unlike the former Aptera Motors Inc)
I either read or heard that they like the GlowGo symbol be there symbol for their solar movement so I doubt they would add aptera to this first vehicle. Minimal in keeping with their ethos I imagine! Fine with me! I have removed badging from past vehicles. I know what it is.. Easier to clean without more graphics. Some are doing/planning aptera vanity plates….Its there/ required anyway!
-
Thanks for correcting me…but APTERA is what most people will know it as. I have yet to see any company write their full corporate name on their vehicles. 😜
How do I designate my vehicle when APTERA comes out with a4 wheeler or what ever else that maybe produced by APTERA?
When I need repair work and they ask me what model?

Nah. “Aptera” is the plural. The singular is “Apterum”. You know, just like “Zebra” and “Zebrum”.

Same discussion was about “Miata”: “Miatas” or “Miatae”
But maybe this will help:

i was aware also that Aptera is considered a plural noun, however I will defer to Aptera’s choice of nomenclature for their vehicle.
-
But will they tell us if the vehicle is Masculine Feminine, or Neuter?

-
@Bob Kirchner The problem with conjugating Aptera is that we don’t know if it’s Ancient Greek or Modern Latin. In Greek, “Aptera” is plural (lacking more than one wing) while in Latin, “Aptera” is the feminine singular (lacking one wing). If we ignore the meaning and treat Aptera as an abstract noun, the Latin masculine singular would be “Apterus” – plural “Apteri” – while the feminine singular would be “Aptera” – plural “Apterae”. (In Greek, “Aptera” is the plural of “Apteron”.)
One thing we have going for us is that the “a” negative prefix is of Greek origin – so we can skip the Latin!

I think there should be something on the vehicle to let people know about it. If I am parked outside the grocery store, I am sure there are people wondering what it is. There should be a clue to help others figure it out. Even if it’s a small sticker on the window giving the manufacturer’s name and website. They could even put a QR code pointing to the site. Once these start hitting the road, people are going to want to learn more.
If they do a QR code, I would also like to add a second QR code and Rick Roll people with a dummy code as well as the real one
-
They are surely missing out if they don’t do something like this. If they don’t, I’ll surely equip mine with discrete window stickers that say “www.aptera.us” or possibly “info@aptera.us” (maybe use the Aptera symbol instead of the @?) located at the base of the side windows, just ahead of the rear edge of the doors.

Right – That’s what I am thinking. But I do have to throw in a Rick Roll thing

They may have problems in some markets with “glogos” (especially on the front)
I hate extra brand / model badges – there was a dealer in the UK that used to add their own (extra) raised badge to every vehicle they sold – I would not buy from them on principle.
-
I remember when the volt first came out they made a number of demos for dealers with VOLT in about 12 inch letters applied to each side of it.
As an Ambassador hopefully getting mine a little early, having Aptera wrapped on its sides in large graphics would help spread the name recognition.
-
David, we had this discussion before. Ambassador status will not get a vehicle any sooner than if you were a regular reservation holder. Aptera has described their strategy for production distribution. First deliveries will be to 400mi reservation holders local to the production facility then expanding from there. Sometime before they distribute to middle America. but, you can certainly order a custom exterior finish.

If they are going to put the name on it, make it a sticker in the window so the owner has the choice. Leave it up to the owner: leave it on or remove it.

I don’t believe my Tesla Y has the word “Tesla” visible on the outside, other than the license plate ring (which is being deleted.) Yet everybody in the world recognizes it. Same will be true for Aptera.
-
Each Tesla model has a designation.
When you go to a shop u tell them it’s a Y or model 3 and so on. If they develop a second or 3rd vehicle the name APTERA is already taken.
-
Honestly it’s a minor quirk long term. Not sure if tesla really used the name roadster at launch. Even if Aptera never makes another model they have decent market potential (hundreds of thousands per year) with just the current design. I hope the company iterates and perfects the “original Aptera” rather than spreading too thin in highly compedative segments (the sedan still needs to emphasize Aptera’s unique advantages) .

I’d guess it would be printed on the wrap. Honestly if they make it to production there will probably be, so many news/internet articles that only the biggest technological hermits won’t recognize it.
