Would you want a Carbon Fiber Wheel for Aptera
-
I think this would work really well on Aptera & reduce the weight even more. Thoughts?

Short answer no. These are astronomically expensive – like $12,000. The Aptera is still intended to be a viable price for buyers. This might be something for the EQXX since it will be a $150k+ car. https://www.motor1.com/news/144031/cheaper-carbon-fiber-wheels/

Just curious, what are the downsides of carbon fiber wheels aside from the price? Are they less durable or more unreliable in any way? Getting rid of a 50-100lbs of unsprung mass ought to do great things for range and handling. Certainly not worth $12,000 dollars but I’d pay $1000 for the weight reduction unless there is something bad that I don’t know about.

I’m a big fan of empirical data. I just haven’t seen them used on daily drivers, going through pot holes, or surviving tire shops.

Fair enough. At $12K a set it’s unlikely that there will ever be a large enough data set to get real world data.
-
BUT… if they’re $12,000.00 for a set, that’s only $9000.00 for Aptera!

some may be willing to pay for it. being more lightweight, it’ll help ride quality, sporty handling, accelration and effeincy… it maybe enough to be comparable to other similar cost 2 seater cars with automatic tranmissions (most such people would be willing to cosnider aptera, unlike the serious driving enjoyers who are looking for manual transmission).

From what I gather, CF wheels can actually weigh MORE than similarly-sized magnesium wheels, making them about the same weight as aluminum wheels.
