Is the logo on the side of the vehicle, larger?

Thanks for this post. First I would like to say that I really like the gloss finish rather than the matte finish, Aptera, I hope you hear this and make it an option. Second, I don’t mind the longer side stalks with mirrors as long as there will still be video side view screens that we can look at instead of the skinny mirrors. Finally, I think that the nose guards on the wheel skirts are a great idea and I think they actually look better than the alpha design.

I’m very pleased with the changes. The overall feel of the vehicle is slightly more slick and assertive, and I think that will give people more confidence in Aptera. I have always liked the unusual and playful design. The very first Aptera (many years ago) had the + and – sign pedals and I am so very stroked that is back. Others have already commented on the details. I assume that the center headlight will be clearly augmented with the ‘smile’ across the with of the cockpit as well as lights on the wheels; we don’t want oncoming traffic to underestimate the size of the vehicle.

Curious to see how the side cameras will be integrated with screens. I love the clean and clear look of the interior. None of that leather 1990’s couch look. Somehow it falls neither for the childish playful look, nor the sports car look, nor the fussy too-many-accessories feel. This is what the future looks like, and I think Jason is a genius. (Full disclosure: I’m not in automotive design but I work at the design school where Jason got his degree).

Much of the drag produced by the mirrors will come from the flat (mirror) surface that is facing backward. This can be reduced by adding an aerodynamic “tail” to that surface. The aptera vehicle has an aerodynamic tail for that purpose. Perhaps the aftermarket world will come to the rescue.

Interesting that in the videos of the moose beta testing, there is a round steering wheel used vigorously to negotiate the curves. Not a yoke.

I can live with the yoke. I also like the little center cluster.

The one thing I don’t like about the Tesla is the missing center cluster. I’m always over the speed limit because I can’t readily see how fast I’m going without looking right.

Not crazy about the seat styling design but hey, it’s just a car and it will be covered with my butt. It does however seem out of place with the outside styling.

Either way if there’s anything I don’t like in the final design I’ll change it when it gets delivered. That’s the car guys credo.

    A few catches for the above video;

Door latch has been removed and dropped into a slot. It makes for a much cleaner look. The old version stuck out like a post and seems like it could catch you when the seat was lifted and gaining access to the rear. I just hope the seals prevent water and dirt from entering that hole.

The hatch is a true hatch and not just a glass pane. Will stop lots of accidental breakage (?)

The center mounted screen sits higher and could block seeing out the front windscreen. The M3’s screen doesn’t go over the top of the dashes line of sight.

The seats are flatter with less side bolsters. Aggressive drivers may not like this change.

License plate area widened. Maybe for our European clients.

Door straps. I see these becoming dirty and stretched out over time like any seat belt. I may fix an aftermarket handle to mine.

I do like the wheel skirt rubber fronts. It just makes sense.

The center mounted headlight works for the design as well.

With all the design cues on the interior going with the exterior the seats look like they came out of the AMC Pacer.

    Just my two cents.

Nice evolution of the design. I know they indicated the beta’s would not be “pretty”, but here’s hoping they build one, even if just to wreck it later. Would love to see that video!

Perhaps my eyes are fooling me, and it is just a render, but it appears the roll down portion of the window is a bit more flush?

I noticed that too regarding the mid-window frame, Jon. It almost looked wider too, and at least was not thinner, which is unfortunate since it will clearly and unfortunately block field of view.

Other than that and the perhaps floppy/cheap looking (TBD) interior door pull-down handles, there are a lot of great improvements in this latest version.

I agree that there are so many improvements with these new renders.

To your point about viewability, I too worry about the width of the window bar. In addition to that, I saw someone mention the height of the 2 monitors in the dash being a little too high and could also hinder the driver’s view. I’d suggest moving the center monitor a little lower and having the steering wheel monitor be attached or closer to the steering wheel mount. Would love for the steering wheel monitor to include the speedometer, but not sure how possible if side camera views are there. Side camera views should always be displayed.

The yoke may work fine if the maximum rotation is 180 degrees.

The new side mirror/camera design looks good. What is not good is the comment that you will see the side camera view in the driver’s screen when a turn signal is on. Hmmm, I usually check for vehicles to the side before putting on a turn signal. Since the two screens for the side cameras appear gone, I hope an option for the driver’s screen is to show the two side mirror, perhaps on the lower half of the screen.

Regarding the mid-window frame and visibility, I noticed that the new mirrors in the video were slanted up, I assume to be able to see them past the mid-window frame. I assume that slant is adjustable for different sized drivers. I’m still a little confused about where the video output will be displayed for the side view cameras; left screen, bottom of left screen, programmable to where ever we want it?

the first beta rendering in the video appears to show one wide screen rather than a smaller drivers screen

I like the door handles. I think they fit the aircraft cockpit aesthetic of the rest of the cabin, and they also remind me of older door closing methods from other minimalistic classics – the Morris Minor and even the 2CV, which had a cable. I also think it’ll be easier to grab when the door is up in the air. I agree that the shape of the body has been magically infused with greater appeal.

While there are multiple items that have been thoroughly covered above, the one thing I really like is the reflective surface on the rendering instead of the flat finish.

In one of the videos, the center rear view camera display is more fixed and not particularly movable. This new beta render shows the rear view mirror as fully adjustable like traditional mirrors. Perhaps they are making the center rear view mirror/display function as either a traditional mirror or as a display. This would be a good decision because it gives the driver the choice between the two.

I’ve been trying to ignore the aptera lately, since it will be at least 2023 till I can get one. But, I really like this beta design. Having a driver gauge screen is great, the refreshed interior looks good, and though I am deeply suspicious of yoke steering, they always look cool and may be fine to drive. Time will tell.

Hopefully I can fit in it and be comfortable for long road trips. Now back to aptera hibernation mode for me.

Perhaps the view of the new display infront of the driver was blocked by the steering wheel, and the yoke made it a clear view.

I wonder how much of the decision to have the yoke was influenced by view of the display, desire to be trendy, and Tesla requiring it to go with their steering column.

I am mostly excited about this next design phase, with a wait-and-see feel towards the yoke. I am a bit surprised that the bar across the window is still as big and fat as before; I had somehow expected that the final design would minimize the visibility of the bar and maximize the view for the driver. Does it serve a structural purpose? For the lucky few who had a test drive: did you notice it? Was it obstructive?

I have a Moose test question.

I see in the vehicle dynamics test video they do a run starting at 2.39 and finish at 2.45. (rough but conservative measurement)

6 seconds to run 110m ( track length is 110m from first to last cone according ISO 3888-2:2011) means an average speed of 18.33m/s .

18.33m/s means average speed is 66km/h.

Why is nobody jumping for joy about beating the Moose?

Aptera Owners Club did a video on it a month ago – definitely important. When done with production intent polished vehicle it will actually count. https://youtu.be/9BRaKbWQdxY

Fyi: Both I and Brian Jacobsen used different methods and calculated 72 kph average.

I wish the renders showed better some of the more dramatic changes (such as the new front screen). I assume that will replace the mirrors on each side, as it appears the renders still do not have homologation-satisfying mirrors. Just a strange choice of images when a 3D render allows for infinite choices.

Aptera’s recent update video confirmed the revised the beta interior, and Jason added helpful information about the interior development progress and reasoning for recent changes. I know that we will hear about people who hate the yoke steering, but I personally like it in the Aptera, Most people who I have spoken to who own a new Tesla with the yoke steering say that they like it overall, and it only took a little time to adapt to it. Many don’t like Tesla’s finger operated horn button and lack of turn signal stalks, to which I agree. Another new design change is the dash mounted screen behind the steering yoke. This I think could be a great idea, depending on how it is implemented. I hope that the view is selectable so that you can view other important items normally, like speed, warnings, charge, GPS directions, music, etc. I’d like the option to have it only display the side view when using the turn signal or a button, so that it’s not normally distracting. It would be nice to have the option to have the left side view on the small screen, and the right view on the right-most upper corner of the big, center screen. Overall, I like the interior revisions, but I would prefer the option of black cloth/plastic for all touchable surfaces. I’ve owned (and regretted) white interiors before, and even though light surfaces look clean and open when new, many don’t age well under daily commuter use. What do you all think?

I am in the same place with your on the “nice looking” yoke.

(I have never drove a vehicle with one)

I assume by summer 2022 we will know the turning lock to lock turning range of the yoke

I live in southern AZ so I always lean to a lighter interior. Surface temp and less heat build up

I test drove and have my wife’s Kia EV 6 on order. They have a similarly mounted display screen screen over the steering wheel (matching one to right) but the circular side view comes on instantly when you flick on the direction. I only test drove but liked it! They have conventional side view mirrors too The GT line also had 360 degree aerial view display too for parking. All “seemed” nice and easy to adapt to.

I suppose IF that is the way Aptera is going with the side view displays with mirrors, test drive a KIA EV 6 or any with the same design “to get a taste”

    Everyone has their needs/regions

I adapt easily to many things. I hope my wide does :(, 😉

I think that to maintain situational awareness you need to be able to see the side view images at all times, not just when signalling.

I found it interesting to see the side camera locations above the yoke with a full rear view mirror on the windshield. I wonder how they will solve that for those of us that reserved with full solar.
