It looks like CA has a “one trip permit” that could be used to get the Aptera out of CA.
From the link provided above;
In lieu of California registration, you can get a one trip permit (for a fee) to move a vehicle:
- When unladen, for one continuous trip from a place within California
to a place in or outside California or from outside California to a
place in California (by the most direct route). - For participation as a vehicular float or display in a lawful parade
or exhibition for one round trip from one place to another. The total
round trip cannot exceed 100 miles and must be completed within 60 days.
A one trip permit is also valid for a nonresident:
- To move a newly purchased trailer coach into California.
- Member of the armed forces to move an unregistered trailer coach they own into, out of, or within California.
A one trip permit cannot be used to move a crane or trailer coach owned by a California resident.
Blank one trip permits may be purchased in volume from any DMV office.
Issuing a one trip permit doesn’t affect California tax requirements. For sales and use tax information, contact the Board of Equalization (BOE) at http://www.boe.ca.gov or 1-800-400-7115.

Another alternative would be for those who take delivery early to visit other reservation holders on their way home. I would be open to making some stops on my 700 mile trip back after taking delivery. How to manage the initial contacts while maintaining some degree is a question that I have though.

I think that heated seats should be at the top of the list. Now that I have them I rarely use the heater and it does extend range.
My 2nd desire is the heated steering wheel. They are great for older hands.
And on a lighter note, a propeller and rudder for just behind the rear wheel. Stickers that look like torpedo tube doors. Gill slot stickers. A shark fin for the roof. Only for cloudy days and night driving of course! Or wings and a fake GAU8 for under the nose. There are just too many fun, silly things that a person could dream up.
Seriously, heat the seats and steering wheel, I can live with the rest.

<div>Maybe the next model released will be alphabetic and ascending. Bptera or Beptera. I couldn’t resist and I am not sorry!</div><div>
Maybe the will stick with Delta for the model name. They have years to figure it out so they don’t even need to for a committee yet…

I recently bought a Bolt EUV (it is a placeholder during the wait) and it was mostly charged. It it is also possible to set the target charge level and I expect the same option will be available in the Aptera. Charge level, finish time, and off peak charging hours are all settings.
My prediction is that they will be set to 80%-90% charge at the factory.

I will be using it to travel from Western Colorado to Denver on I-70 several times per year. Vail Pass and the Eisenhower Tunnel are two significant climbs with the associated down hill stretches. Will a 400 mile pack be able to make the 270 mile trip without charging if one starts with 100% charge or do we need to stop for lunch?
I am sure that the Aptera can devour the climb but at what cost?

I have now made the 270 mile trip from Grand Jct to Denver and back in a Bolt EUV with 249 mile range. This was at Christmas. One stop for lunch and an approx 40% charge was all it took. I bet that the Aptera can make it easily with no stops if needed. The Bolt took approximately 10% of the charge on each of the two climbs and regenerated a good amount on the down hills. The speed was between 70-80 mph so the range suffered a little but it was also a real world test.

I don’t normally name my vehicles but “Flipper” would be #1 because of the somewhat dolphin nose and as an old Trekkie, “Enterprise” is tempting. I might have to see if they had any good names for shuttle craft also. “Nemo” is temping too…
I also like “Firefly” but if you are thinking of the cargo ship from the series, I didn’t think it was a good fit for me. Now if Aptera comes out with a very fast cargo model sign me up!
