I updated the old wrap pictures to Delta. I also included some ideas for possible offroad kits and various aftermarket goodies. Thoughts?

I joined the waitlist. It’s free. Not sure how they’re going to achieve their technical targets but we’ll have to see what happens.

It’s not always that windy – It was just because there was a storm coming in. It blows strong out of the south right before a storm.
I’m not too worried about Aptera taking off. But I would like to see more about how it handles in the snow. Heavier vehicles are sometimes more sure-footed in snow.

Aptera makes perfect sense for an efficient off-roader since it is still efficient in free-air-flow, right? In other words, if you put a Tesla model 3 up in the air away from the ground the drag increase is a lot worse than putting an Aptera body up in the air higher.
But… the wheel pants and rear skirt would need to be addressed in some creative manner if more ground clearance is needed. Maybe a rubber skirt that flexes on contact?
Say I want 400 miles of range with 8 inches of ground clearance (Like a gas Subaru))
For a Model Y you can lift it and put on big tires but then you’re at 200 miles of range and basically screwed on meeting that goal.
For an Aptera you can lift it, put less efficient tires on it, and swap the skirts out to something different and you’re still in the ballpark as long as it maintains reasonable aerodynamics.
Or you can get a Rivian with air suspension and the big battery. But that’s complicated, heavy, and expensive, and frankly wasteful for most of us most of the time.

Guess what – Looks like Aptera is actually 85 inches wide (2.159 meters). They were able to trim a little off.

How to change a tire on an Aptera:
-
Composites engineer here – High temperatures can damage the body and foam core. Anything over 200 F would be questionable unless they’re already curing them in an oven. 400 is too much.
-
I’m happy with where Aptera is at this point – They’re more well baked than Vanderhall or the Polaris Slingshot. They gotta stand on their own feet and they are taking the simple and quick route with an autocycle.

The Offroad Spec Van and Truck – Shared suspension and body shape between truck and van. The truck has an accordian style rear solar cover on the bed – just like the EdisonFuture truck.

A sedan design! The offroad/crossover and Sedan share the same body – the only difference is wheel size and lift. There are also two versions – A “Wagon” with a tall tail and a “sedan” with a thin tail. All are 4 door 4/5 seat with a generous trunk.

I created a rough design for a small aerodynamic vehicle (2 seat, 4 wheel, narrower “European” version if you will) based on some of the solar racers. Thoughts?

If Aptera didn’t exist… I’d pay a lot for one of these with an EV drivetrain and solar.
Why didn’t they just put it on a gen 1 Honda Insight?

The stock Model X tires in Norway will freeze solid with bumps in them. So I would recommend just getting your own snow tires. There are two models available in the stock Aptera tire size.

I ordered a second one yesterday (6/14/22) and it was 26478.
