I could use one right now… I’m renting and had to move recently – I paid to install a charger at the previous rental. But this new one is old (1967) and looks like my best shot is to use the dryer outlet but even that isn’t up to code so all that has to get replaced. Then I’d have to use a neocharge splitter ($500) and run it out the basement window across the yard to the garage. It’s really not ideal. The local rebates were just changed from 75% of cost to $200. At this point it looks like I won’t doing anything due to cost except 120v unless that blows the breaker all the time… So unless that siemens meter piggyback upgrade is cheap it isn’t happening.
Maybe it’s time I build that off grid solar trailer – but that would cost me $6k.

Composites engineer here – High temperatures can damage the body and foam core. Anything over 200 F would be questionable unless they’re already curing them in an oven. 400 is too much.

The alpha vehicles had tons of belly clearance.
The beta vehicles sit much lower and don’t have much clearance. Please keep this in mind…

What do y’all think of the GAC space concept?

In order to steal the hub motor you’d have to do the following:
Jack up and support car
Remove wheel pant
Remove wheel
Disconnect upper and lower ball joint
Disconnect steering linkage
Disconnect cooling lines
Disconnect power and communication lines
Disconnect brake systems
Or just cut through the whole lot with a sawzall and make off with the whole thing.
Then you have a used hub motor that can only be used on another Aptera, and costs $2500 to buy new.

I recommend a Tesla gen 2 mobile charger ($200) for ALL EVs even non-teslas – then get a teslatap for it. The other chargers are twice the price and twice the size and weight. There is no other charger on the market that has a swappable end for any outlet, will self throttle for whatever outlet you are using, and is UL listed and waterproof for both 120v and 240v.
Plus then you have a teslatap already to use tesla destination chargers.
Whatever you do don’t get a mustart charger or some cheap amazon charger – they melt charge ports.
For wall units Juicebox, grizzle, clipper creek, chargepoint, webasto, bosch, electrify america, wallbox, etc are all good.

I’m happy with where Aptera is at this point – They’re more well baked than Vanderhall or the Polaris Slingshot. They gotta stand on their own feet and they are taking the simple and quick route with an autocycle.

A small bus platform – Useful for long range delivery vehicles, RVs (Showing foldout solar hatches) and even small RV trailers.
The trailer uses the same body, doors, etc as the bus and other platforms to reduce the number of molds needed. -

The Offroad Spec Van and Truck – Shared suspension and body shape between truck and van. The truck has an accordian style rear solar cover on the bed – just like the EdisonFuture truck.

A sedan design! The offroad/crossover and Sedan share the same body – the only difference is wheel size and lift. There are also two versions – A “Wagon” with a tall tail and a “sedan” with a thin tail. All are 4 door 4/5 seat with a generous trunk.

I created a rough design for a small aerodynamic vehicle (2 seat, 4 wheel, narrower “European” version if you will) based on some of the solar racers. Thoughts?

If you come up with anything interesting throw it up in the Sedan/Crossover/Van/Truck thread!

You have a really good point I’ve never thought of.
If you have a week of sun then two weeks of darkness the big battery has enough capacity to “carry” you through the two weeks of darkness to the next week of sun. I think I’d rather have this in a powerwall that my Aptera charges up then I can use to charge my Aptera, but if you’re renting, not really much choice. Maybe a powerwall trailer?

Remember it’s already August 3 over there now – because it’s on the other side of the date line. They’re 14 hours ahead or something like that.

Wheels on struts – as in external pod wheels in pants like on the Aptera?
-
I ordered a second one yesterday (6/14/22) and it was 26478. This suggests 300 a day if the number is now counting up?
I wonder if it’s actually counting again.

True – A lot of this sort of thing would be dependent on movable wheel covers (Like used in the Ecomodding community) to get the wheel articulation needed. It will be interesting to see what develops in the future.

Yeah – this is a totally different design based on the solar racer design (Which is actually super skinny and tall but looks better in that side picture).
Also, it might be worth building a 1+2 seating layout with a center driver position for some of these ideas.
