I’m a bit curious about unpaved road ability as many have a pair of tire ruts with a high center point between tires. That may be an issue for a center line tire. Same for snow on most roads. It may mean driving a new center track?

I was sponsored on a project via Dr Paul MacCready at AeroViroment in the mid 1990’s. I recall the EV1 at the S. CA facility. My project later got co-sponsored by GM with AeroVironment and I worked with the same team working on the GM Impact while at the Warren, MI, R&D facility. I still have one of the advertisement brochures for the car, and a signed book about the EV project.

I was sad when GM recalled all of the EVs and crushed them at the Proving Grounds in Mesa AZ, where I was later running speed records on my project. I can on only think if they had kept that early EV momentum. MacCready had the insight to see around corners. I am certain he would champion the Aptera and the solar EV approach today.

I fell in love with this idea of an Aptera in the mid 90s when I did a project with Dr Paul MacCready at AeroViroment. He got me a co-sponsor with the team that put together the “GM Impact”. The first production of an efficient electric car for the masses was in its infancy at GM (who later killed the project.) I was working with three wheel designs at the time thinking it would be a logical step if proof of concept was viable.

Too, Paul had been working with the solar racer car they put together for the race across Australia. All efficiency lessons he had learned from developing the first sustainable human power flight and solar flight, and with super efficient human powered designs of the IHPVA. A solar car was a practical application of the emerging technologies in low weight strength, aerodynamics, batteries, solar, cad.

It was all headed in the direction of the Aptera and I am happy to still be around to see it happen. I am certain Paul would love driving one.

As I give it more thought I would be happy to have a cargo area side DC port that could handle recharging a portable battery/inverter, like a Jackery or equivalent, “reasonably quick” during the day. When not in use for camping, etc., leave it home so you are not carrying around the weight and space. One can purchase a portable use unit to suit various needs (camping, work tools, music, etc) if they don’t already own one.

I would like to see able power to the back cargo area to run power tools, induction stove for camping, recharging of a Jackery style battery in reasonable time that could be taken elsewhere. One can get inverters after market, or use the personal battery for AC. What doesn’t make sense is having to get under the hood up front to hook into the battery and running cables around to the back for work area or camping (with greater power needs.)

Chris did say recently in a video interview they might rethink this with enough feedback. That’s a great thing to have a auto manufacturer be willing to consider changes based on customer feedback before first offering.

Does anyone have the “complete” rear interior dimensions, or if they are available? This would be both top and side views so on can see tapers in side walls, elevation changes back to front seats. Exact size and location of rear wheel hatch?

I would like to pre-delivery design for some equipment I want to carry in the cargo area, custom fit pullouts. To keep in the Aptera tradition some of this will be fabricated out of some surplus aircraft carbon fiber floorboards I have.

I have been waiting for the pause to end as I missed investing for Accelerator by one day. I am now, as of today, invested through Issuance investor dashboard. I do have my prior investment in shares sitting with Computershare. Does that get rolled into my total shares for leaderboard or do I need to move the shares to Issuance? If yes, how?

I have had some thoughts about being able to send a charge from the Aptera to a home battery if the Aptera is fully charged taking advantage of the solar power generation. If I come back from a long trip I could then use the home battery to fuel up the Aptera from prior generation giving it a boost to the potential 40 miles per day charging, or charging on a cloudy day from excess produced on a sunny day.

    Just a thought….

I am happy to get some feel for ETA on production. I think we’re all excited to get this on the road, but are realistic about the logistics and time to work through bugs, etc.

I had planned to join the accelerator program and missed the pause announcement. My investment day on my calendar was on Monday, June 12th. It paused on Sunday, June 11th! Seriously, one day!?

I was bummed and am awaiting the reopening so I can join yin before it hits 2000. The longer the pause the more may be waiting in the que. I check regularly now, but so far no word on when the pause will end.

It would be great if a port were available or easily installed that would handle external solar. As an Accelerator to receive a launch edition I understand some desires might not make launch timelines. However, if we can upgrade we won’t be at a total loss for accepting the earlier launch edition.

I have portable solar panels for my camping battery pack. It would be great to supplement the Aptera with them when not needed for the external battery.

    Question for everyone….

While personalized plates are transferable, at least in Oregon (get it now, transfer it later), the Aptera will register as a motorcycle car. It would require one already has a motorcycle they are selling to transfer the smaller plate to the Aptera.

I don’t believe one can grab a plate name in advance because you have to have the vehicle VIN in the application. Is this just Oregon? How are you dealing with this?
