Some people hate there are (close to) no buttons to do things you do when using a car. Now there is a 3rd party aftermarket gadget that has some buttons, but apparently only for less imortant and not safety relevant tasks. No blinker button, no wiper button, nottons for the lights as it seems. However, you can open the frunk with one of these buttons – hopefully locked while driving 😱😂

    Santa “Elaphe” Aptera 2023

No biggie, just 5 seconds of Aptera in the 90 seconds short video.

But IMO the video is very well made. A snappy, fast and cheerful presentation of in whose projects and products they are involved.

    P.S.

Of course this is no news, it has not been me who posted it here. Great way to disengage users.

Jack “Fully Charged” Scarlett visited the Morgan facilities to talk about this same prototype with Morgan’s CTO. He spills a bit more information than there is in the greencarreports article. In any case, if you love to listen to EV talk you’ll enjoy this interview.

If my soon-to-be 1/4 century old dares to break down before I get my Aptera (Ford forbid!) I am in the luxurious situation that I could just go with economics-driven blend of a rental car filling in for the occasions when my recumbent bikes (up to 160 km/ day; 100 mileper day) or public transport wouldn’t do the trick.

I am just too stingy to go with a temporary own car solution.

Fortunately most of my commutes are less than 40 km (25 miles) one way and cycling replaces other sports activities I used to practice, so the “loss of time” due to up to 2 – 3 times slower transportation (but sometimes even faster!) is not an overall issue.

If I would live in a less favorable region I most likely would go with (HERESY ALERT!!!) a used gas car and hope to have luck with incoming repairs (respectively lack thereof).

Today I almost tossed that unopened sleeve which looked like one of those these millionaire African princes who want you to inherit the wealth of their deceased step auntie in order to evade taxes. Fortunately I decided to open it anyways and it turned out to be the Account Access Confirmation letter containing my personal access code to look at my Aptera shares.

Everything went smoothly. Make sure you still know the answer to those “what’s your grand-grand mother’s maiden name” – stile questions, you really need that stuff.

Also, even if “computershare” doesn’t display the actual value of the Aptera shares, be smart enough to activate the 2 Factor Authentification (Password plus cell phone number), as the first reason why accounts get hacked (regardless if private accounts, companies, hospitals, power plants or municipalities) still is lack of 2FA!

As long as the tortoise doesn’t starve to death on its way to the goal I’m just fine.

Considering that the solar version of the Aptera started in 2019 we are complaining on a very high level regarding waiting time. Most if not all other EV startups (including Tesla) took longer to get into serial production than Aptera is heating to, and some are in way more serious danger to fold up than Aptera is. We probably are a bit spoiled by Aptera’s relatively open communication about their progress, no legacy automaker, and only few startups are so frank with their pre-order holders. But yes, I’m “suffering” too!

I’m just hoping that the global economy sentiment will open bigger investor’s wallets rather sooner than later as Aptera can’t hibernate indefinitely.

There is only one important point I picked up in these two webinars: Chris Anthony said that once Aptera will have fully reached their inicial funding goal (right now not yet there) it would take 9 months to set up everything until the first production Aptera would leave their facilities.

Said that, I’m leaning back till then.

The good part of the somewhat lengthy waiting time is that everybody can put aside some extra money that either can be spent on

    • a possible price adjustment due to inflation👎,
    • some extra features 😇 and/or
    • additional Aptera shares 👍😁

Thank you Alan Chuzel an kerbe2705 for posting the link, respectively leaving the photo directly here on the forum!

I think we all are thirsty for any kind of information about Aptera’s progress, and the waiting time would be much less pleasant without the numerous inputs by forum members here.

Aptera has claimed its solar panels not only to be much sturdier than normal ones, but also that they are designed to be replaceable (also for later upgrades in case more efficient solar panels should become available).

Replacing the solar panels might be even cheaper than repairing any medium hail damage on a traditional car, and such damages should be covered by comprehensive insurance (where I live hail damage is included by default, I couldn’t even exclude it if I wanted to). Hail causing only slight damage to metal car roofs and hoods most likely will not damage Aptera’s solar panels at all.

Regardless whether the car roof is solar or metal, those living in an area where hail occurs are well advised to have hail damage included in their car insurance.

Pictures: cases of medium hail damage, not cheap to repair

Maybe we even shouldn’t compare the Aptera to ICE vehicles because the latter ones are already condemned to be a thing of the past.. The savings compared to other EVs might take many years until the difference paid for electricity will have paid for the Aptera, but all savings (including taxes, insurance and maybe less expensive repairs due to the right to repair) plus other benefits still remain remarkable though:

    • Free mileage from direct solar energy on it’s own (compared to solar energy from one’s home roof that first had to be stored in another battery and plugging in the vehicle),
    • composite material shell that will not corrode,
    • better, unbeatable overall efficiency
    • plus is the Aptera the coolest vehicle design available (well, soon available at least – I’m confident of that)

In order to save 36000.- driving the Aptera compared to what my Ford Focus has cost per year over the last 20+ years, assuming I would only drive 12000 km / 7500 miles per year this would be the case in 18 years, assumimng I would drive twice as much it would be the case in 12 years (assuming gas and electricity prices would both stay the same as now, and considering differences in taxes, insurance and half the maintenance costs I had with my old car which hasen’t been too bad so far).

Hi Philipp, Aptera’s CEO Chris Anthony has stated in several occasions that they are working towards complying with EU regulations respectively to see how exemptions could be obtained. So, no tinkering should be required.

Availabilty outside the USA is scheduled for 2024, but you better pre-order now or you might have to wait even longer.

I haven’t driven with a yoke, but my handling will not need any adjustment when I’ll get my Aptera with a yoke. I had been tought that kind of steering wheel handling during a several days long safety driving course (directed to rally racers and as well to folks who want to drive safely on unpredictably slippery roads).

Some time ago I was thinking about doing a video of me handling the steering wheel with taped off upper part in my car in order to simulate a yoke, but then i thought it would be a bit of a sterile demonstration and I forgot about it.

Now, these days I stumbled across a YT video showing nicely how a yoke equipped Tesla isn’t a problem at all in a hairpin turn. With the creator’s permission (YT-user: Cyber Owners) I extracted the relevant portion of his video. Hope this helps to understand.

I do not understand why Aptera’s own vehicles (of course ony a few prototypes so far) do not display in BIG letters the name “Aptera“. It’s the most cost effective advertising one can get!

I have seen now already several videos of test drives where people on the street at a traffic light stop ask what this is. Now imagine all those who didn’t have time to ask, were too far away, too shy or the environment has been too noisy…

The “forumgineers” alan-wawrzyniak’s and fgSOL24’s ideas make a lot of sense to me.

I think that Aptera should really have a look at these proposals! 👍

The Citron CX also had a single wiper without fancy mechanism and for me (often as my father’s passenger) it never has been a problem at all.

And yes, a heated windshield would be very helpful in winter, and heated solar hood, roof and hatch as well… 🎅🎁🤯😅

LOL, that’s true! And also shortly after Nissan, again steeing wheels “falling off”, not yokes!

I have a hunch that the term “steering wheel falling off” has been redefined either by the NHTSA or whomever.

In St. Moritz Chris Anthony told me that the Aptera for Europe will feature the CCS2 socket DC-Mid (see attached picture here), except those early deliveries of the AccelerateAptera program which will have to use an adapter.

    Exactly you said, @scott-ullerich

@kerbe2705 , you stated that “Everyone who’s been in the Gamma prototype has reported that they could see both front wheel pants”. Well, then I am the first one you hear from who only could see the wheel pant on the driver’s side. I only could spot an tiny edge of the right hand side wheel pant when bowing over quite a bit towards the passenger seat, way more than I would dare to do while driving, not even while creeping forward. Most likely body size matters here – I am 1.70 m (5 ft 7″).

But then again, who would want to watch the right front tire of any car while driving.

In my country (Switzerland), instead of the US Tax ID I had to use the retirement insurance number (without separator dots).

It will be best if you ask Aptera via email invest@aptera.us – in my case the responded swiftly (way less than 1 day for fist response, after that even quicker) and they have been very helpful and kind.

    Who “he”?

In case you mean the interviewer, here you go:

Unfortuntely, all his interviews seem to be pretty shallow and only cut out segments of a longer conversation.

Not enough range for me, and I don’t like much that it obviously handles more like a 3-wheeled motorcycle than a car (no test drive needed to recognize this).

But I’m curious: in which regard have you been disappointed when you rented it?
