It’s getting warmer these days and I wonder how hot will my Aptera get in the sun.

It’s certainly feasible to have some sort of cooling of the interior while parked in the sun. The least should be to run a fan to push out hot air and allow cooler air to enter. And I’m guessing running the A/C while parked wouldn’t be unrealistic. Hopefully these considerations were part of Aptera’s climate control development.

I live in the Southwest and we have several days (weeks?) of over 100° days. With the announcement that vents for the A/C will be only from around the center display panel, I have concerns of whether this will provide a decent level of comfort on hot days.

My last car that had center only vents (1974 BMW 2002) for the A/C never really provided a decent level of comfort during those demanding days. My knee, shoulder and arm nearest the center would be very cold while the rest of me was too warm.

I cannot imagine cruising for hours like that. Please consider supplemental side vents like those found in every other car sold since 1976.

Yep. I’m on schedule for delivery about the middle of 2024. Yes, a little disappointing. However, that gives Aptera thousands of on road testing with real customers to “work out the bugs” and with subsequent updates I will have an improved car when delivered. I’m still excited.

I’ve owned several cars that didn’t have power steering: VW Type 1 (Bug), Gen 1 Porsche 911, Gen 1 Miata and others. They were lightweight and really didn’t need it. All gave me great steering feedback. The more boosted the steering power assist, the less feedback (like my SUV). I’m thinking at about 2000 lbs, the Aptera won’t need it. Of course I’m considering only ease of steering. Maybe there are other reasons to have it that I’m not aware of.

Yes. I understand that A/C is standard. And I am concerned how well it will work. I live in an area where we get a handful of days that tops 100 degrees.

But another question I have for the engineers is will the HVAC system work when the car is parked?

I can foresee days when I go shopping during a hot day and I park my Aptera in the sun for several or more minutes. Well, there will be help from the solar panels, but will the car’s system allow the A/C to keep the car cool while it’s parked? Even if it meant using power from the batteries, I would like to come back to a cool, or at least a significantly less hot, car.

Plus, I can imagine recharging, while on a road trip, would be nicer with the A/C running while parked.

Also, let’s say my car is parked outside on my driveway and in the sun. Will I be able to pull up my app on my phone and have my car start to cool off a few minutes before I leave? Or even warm up the cabin on a cold day?

Just wondering, but that would sure be a nice application to existing systems.

I’m excited that Aptera is offering the Safety Pilot upgrade. Long trips should be a lot less monotonous with its facial tracking, lane keep, adaptive cruise and emergency braking. It remains to be seen what it will and won’t do.

I’m thinking I may be allowed to set it and forget it on long Interstate highway travel. Personally I would have little interest in any other application.

I ordered the 400 mile version which, at 75 mph and with A/C, should give me about 220 or so miles between recharges (recharge to 80% and then run it down to 20%). Or a little over three hours of travel, then (I’m guessing) about 30 minutes on a DC fast charger at 50 kwh.

Call it wild speculation or an educated guess, but exciting.

I’ve never had a composite vehicle before. I know there are composite boats and airplanes. But they go through water and clean air. This car will be subjected to road grit, dirt, muddy water, etc. I wonder how well the surface of the body will wear in this environment. I’d guess most wear will be in the areas of the face, leading edges on the wheel skirts (especially the rear wheel) and the under belly. Maybe just proper cleaning and waxing will be enough. Also, it seems you won’t be taking your Aptera through your local car wash. So buy yourself a creeper to crawl under your car to give it a proper scrubbing. Any thoughts?

Yep. Light weight, wide stance, low center of gravity and Roush engineering makes this very promising. If they get it right, I won’t be that surprised, but I’ll be very happy. I have my fingers and toes crossed. Thanks for the input.

Thank you for your reply. It’s comforting to hear of the favorable impressions from those ride-alongs.

My first exposure was when Jay Leno previewed and drove the Alpha prototype for his YouTube channel. What was bothersome was he had nothing to say of the driving dynamics. He said it was comfortable and peppy. I’m more interested in how well it rides and handles.

    Oh well. Time will tell.
