    Echo all the sentiments here.

I have three-times-year trip that is 700 miles each way, 2 night stay minimum. Assumptions are ideal 100%-0% range, 40kw charge rate, 117VAC 13Amp plug at destination, 40 miles solar.

    – 250 mile option, 2 stops 40 minutes each, 90 miles of leaway, 11 hours to recoup for return.

    – 400 mile option, 1 stop 60 minutes, 140 miles of leaway, 16 hours to recoup for return.

    – 600 mile option, 1 stop 30 minutes, 140 miles of leaway, 30 hours to recoup for return.

    – 1000 mile option, no stops (‘cept baffroom break), 340 miles of leaway, 40 hours to recoup for return.

So, 80, 60, 30 or 0 minutes of required break to charge depending on battery, and only you’all can decide how much time you wish to waste fueling on your trips. My current Kia Soul ICE requires 2 stop about ten minutes each, so the 600 or 1000 would be on either side of that for trip time waste, 250 and 400 would be miserable for my liking.

Replaces and aging fleet of 2004 Honda GL1800, 2006 Honda S2000 and gohd willing with the hatch tent a downsized replacement for 2005 majestic 28a. I also sold an ’83 XJ6 show car too, but it is not really being replaced. It fits in better with my downtown Condo retirement lifestyle. And a monthly 400-700 mile trip with my wife to see various relations.

I have also seen various sources of information about the Aptera moving from 100Wh/mile to 129Wh/mile, which would jibe with a drop from 40 to 30 miles/day of solar range. Ruthless efficiency is extremely fragile in the face of engineering realities, available parts streams and the real world. I urge all to manage their expectations, this vehicle will be wonderful, the best, just let the pennies and nickels fall where they may.

I am expecting the near 3 times more efficient than nearest competitors drop to a solid 2 by the time we take delivery.

The Elaphe site is focussed on partnership, and not individual customers, I could not find a support channel with downloadable Service Manuals.

Deep searches, and downloads, were completely unrelated, or junk. For instance apparently Mitsubishi uses some of the same designations in their Meldar line of servo controllers.

Does anyone have, or know where to get, a service or engineering manual for the Elaphe motors and control electronics? Any model will do, their in-service equipment will undoubtedly have similar repair and maintenance issues, and I can extrapolate from there.

It is possible to measure the Cd by getting the vehicle to speed and let it roll to a stop measuring the speed/decel/time and putting it into the formula or models. The computer simulation on the other hand is great for finding the rough spots to smooth them out for the finer details, but nothing is better than reality.

The only issue with this approach for Aptera is the cutting of the drive current would lead to some high voltages coming back into the drive electronics leading to breakdown or arcing on the cables, I am sure that they can get help from Elaphe on this. Or use only one motor (rear, set it up as a non-permanent magnet synchronous motor and cut the field windings) to get it to speed and just wheel bearings elsewhere, on a mule. A _lot_ cheaper than a wind tunnel, and will give them the data they need and they can break the runs between modifications as they please.

They can setup the drive for non-interference station keeping on the PM motors, but there will always be FUD if they can not free wheel. This is where Elaphe can help I am sure.

NB: my company has software to do this on an Android phone. Done.

Same width, mirror to mirror, as some vehicles out there.

Kia Soul (as standard tiny vehicle reference) is 80″ mirror to mirror (but they can be folded in), and is 12″ shorter than the Aptera.

Dodge Challenger is 91″ mirror to mirror.

Acura RDX 91.5″ mirror to mirror

Check out 195/45R16 tires on the various vendors. One popular vendor offers only 5 tires in this size. All non-directional. 3 are all-season, 2 are extreme performance summer. The cheapest one for $124.64/each is an all-season. The extreme performance summer tires are kind of pricey, and have a short life, almost half, so I suspect we all are getting all-season tires.

I am sure when your reservation number comes up you could specify your tires.

Besides the smiling emoji, that makes me happy, I do not see a yoke. I have seen real yokes, and this is not one of ’em.

It looks more like an off center wheel with two unobtrusive nubs on it (@ 9 & 3, or 10 & 2 depending on how you squint). Really an eye of the boholder situation.

Since Gamma has to be pre production, as changes will delay production, it also feels like one is beating a dead horse over this?

The hood might be the only vulnerable spot with solar on it? Interior, top or rear facing should be safe IMHO.

Aptera has an all hands video where they were proud of how their selected flexible solar cells could handle cracks and still remain functional.

But you do raise a point. When our windshield cracks, will the local glass shops have the capability, the stock or availability, and know how to manage replacement?

    A more pragmatic viewpoint.

As purchasers, or rather reservation holders, of a promised deliverable from a company, there is no reason or urge to invest in the company if you do not have the expendable cash and the fiscal (or emotional) reasoning. In other words, it is not our problem.

If Aptera Motors fails to convince future or current $$ investors that they can viably deliver a product on time, as promised, and can in turn deliver on the promise of future profits worthy of their investment, that is on their heads. And if it fails, then in some measure it was destined not to happen. This is a hard and cold fact.

I could invest $2M at the accredited rate, but I am not convinced that I will see profit exceeding my current investments. So I chose to be a reservation holder, I chose to pray and hope for their success, and I hope that some angel out there believes stronger than I that they want to put their money where their mouth is. I feel privaleged my tiny refundable deposit allows me to be a small part of the SEV dream I have had since 1967. I have been provided hope for humanities future for such a cheap price, and been delivered unmatched entertainment.

On FB Aptera Motors only exudes excitement for the forthcoming deliveries. They show no signs of blinking, this vehicle will happen. I chose this positive view of the future, and hope you all will have smiles on your faces in no time at all.

Nothing, NOTHING, will generate more excitement than the first production SEV on the planet wheeling off the assembly line. That is my dream.

California Sales tax is 7.75%, so nope, not going to pay it picking up at factory, much cheaper to pay Florida Sales tax (or none at all, since Aptera has no business offices in Florida?)

My trunk liner will be a 4″ thick sized to fit mattress to go along with the camping option.

Gamma interior, plus the few teasers of the exterior, is beautiful. The steering wheel is the right emoji for the experience.

    – Full set of service tools (I expect some will be Aptera issued) + jack

    – Exped MegaMat Duo 10 sleeping pad 4″ mattress (still do not have dimensions of trunk)

    – BougeRV 12v 28L portable refrigerator or equivalent, efficient phase change compressor.

    – Single highest power that 115v plug in Aptera supports, Induction cooktop and enough cookware to make any meals I care.

    – spare tire NB: Elaphe also takes 15″ rims too, lightest material, undersize tire. Will evaluate since it may affect camping experience. I used plugs and hand pump on my Goldwing, so not averse to that, but have had road hazard shred tires too leaving me in pretty rough place.

    – lucky penny

At fully charged they mentioned they were already pencils down on Delta design. Indicating there were a few changes.

Hmmm <Checks TireRack and finds 125/70-SR16 with same overall diameter and wonders if can find a slender rim and a dually of that fits inside the rear pants, then removes after getting tax break>

At the show videos, they said they have. The suspension, pants, and expected wear of the foam are all part of the compromises that work for maximum aerodynamics. They have speed bumps around their headquarters/factory!

At the show it was explained the rear lowering, front rising, as designed. They are trying to optimize the expected launch angle for curbs and ramps.

The foam is not supposed to be replaced. It is more valuable scuffed.

At the show they stated that expected road abrasion could scuff off based on your driving dynamic to wear to the most perfect aerodynamics. Think a foam material like the soles of your shoes. They selected material that would not discolour when scuffed. It is as-designed to wear the zones out and then be satisfied with the best aerodynamics you can have given your surroundings.

Besides, the oem tires are 195/45R16. Dropping to 155 is 4cm total. Pants could be made smaller then to compensate. This would drop their width from 2.235m to 2.195m …

So this means to equalize non-directional rubber you must always rotate the rear to the left front, the left front to the right front, and the right front to the rear?

Given their size selected was 195/45R16 and that the Elaphe M700 selected (?) as the drive motors, the only other option to retain the same diameter is a 195/50R15 which does not change the sidewall profile much and ends up being a heavier tire, but maybe a lighter rim(?). However, the later 15″ has a _lot_ more manufacturer/tread options than the 16″ variant as exposed on the tire websites, which is a plus for availability, but alas no real difference in pricing (~$130 for best-bang-for-the-buck selections).

    I wonder what a good option for a spare low-speed-low-mileage but-lighter rim/tire will be.

117.5vac will give one 150miles overnight, more than enough for even the most liberal usage in a day.

OWM here. I remain concerned that the forum is all OWM. I have tried to get young family members energised over my choice. They view me as the OWCM (Old White Crazy Man) now.

I want my wife to be excited about my reservation, but I expect her to have the same opinion about the Aptera as she had for S2000 and GL1800. Only for the mechanically/engineer inclined gear-head. Gamma at least starts looking like something she can see herself in.

Regeneration energy, FWD or AWD, compensates for the weight in energy recovery during braking. Braking efficiency is a non-factor with respect to weight. AWD will eliminate the need for any friction braking.

Also, I expect regenerative braking and reduced individual tire wear (lead foots notwithstanding), reduced brake servicing, will be the AWD plus, to the added road gear minus in reduced range/efficiency.
