I am interested in the Aptera for what I would consider completely different reasons than most people. Efficiency, great! Stand out design, great!

One of my main interests in Aptera is the lack of maintenance aspect.

After two spinal fusions and 3 hernia surgeries (I worked hard in my youth), I can no longer do routine maintenance. Oil changes etc. are a thing of the past in my life.

With the in-wheel hub motors there is no transmission to service. Brakes and motor seals are almost the complete list of routine maintenance.

Am I excited for the performance? Absolutely!

That’s the beauty of this creature. There are several great reasons, doesn’t have to be the same one for everybody. You prioritize the low-maintenance factor, and as a bonus you’ll get hyperefficiency and free solar miles.

At Michael Thurman….Definitely a reason that can stand on its own!

Might want to check the math there.

        250 mi is sub 30k

        400 mi is mid 30k

Assuming they can stick to current pricing and you don’t need AWD then 400 mi MIGHT be under $30k US. For me $2500 more for AWD is a no brainer. TBD when final pricing and definitely unfortunate complication with IRA and state incentive uncertainty. Aptera actually makes far more sense in canada since our incentives suck by comparison anyway 😉 #ApteraForBC

I was genuinely surprised when I found that most people had gone for the AWD option. I can understand it from a snow-country viewpoint since the heat in the wheel-wells and the traction control would be clearly useful. However, to me at least, the 2WD option is already scary-fast, and there’s an efficiency drop due to the third motor.

If I wanted 2WD I’d buy something else soon.
I’m in NSW Australia and live on a farm. When it gets wet AWD is a big help.

I bought a outlander PHEV four years ago because BEV AWD was too expensive. This was a mistake – I should have gotten a used ICE AWD while waiting for an affordable AWD BEV.

Sadly most AWD BEVs seem to focus on performance not off-road traction. My last 4 cars have been 4WD.
I may have to accept 2WD if nothing suitable comes along. It would be cheaper to upgrade my access than pay extra for AWD but that limits access to other parts of the property and off-road driving.

Another advantage of 4WD was finding parking in wet spots were 2WD owners weren’t game.
This is my driveway in the dry – it is longer than you see here and I’m past the boggy area.

That’s pretty funny. I also have the Outlander PHEV. I’ve been pretty happy with it but I’m not putting farm-life demands on it.

My PHEV is down to %60 after 4 years. Mitsubishi consider that normal.
They don’t honor warranty here unless forced.

Interest in a Class Action against Mitsubishi regarding PHEV Outlander battery performance.
